The photographer I assist now lists here prices on her website. I never did in the 5 yrs I was offering professional photography services at my design studio. But doing more commercial work, it was better for me to quote flat rates then. When I get my new site up, I will probably put up the "general" list (i.e. business headshots $80, portrait session 1-2 people in studio $250 etc.)
When I was looking for wedding photographers for my own wedding, I was annoyed at how many forced you to contact them to receive their prices. All I wanted was to do a little window shopping to narrow down my choices and I did not want to wait for days to just get a quote. That is why I list all my prices. For the convenience of people shopping during their lunch break or when they have a quick second, my whole package is there for them to see.
I realize though that people have some very strong opinions on this subject, so I don't mean to offend anyone. It's just my opinion.
I decided a year or so ago to go ahead and publish all of my pricing on my website. I thought it would pre qualify potential customers and keep price shoppers from calling. I do feel like it's worked. I'm sure I've missed some calls due to this, but when customers do call, they already know my rates in advance. It works for me.

I hear what your saying and agree that imo it's a good thing to put prices up, but I don't think you'll have to wait days for a wedding photog to get back to you on a quote
