p.1 #1 · Iowa Eagles

Hi folks.
These are from the late month or so from The Mississippi river in Iowa.

These were taken with a Canon 30D with a Canon 400 f5.6 lens.
Heavy crops.

These were taken with a Canon 30D with a Canon 300 f2.8 and a Quantaray 2X tc.

Bad shot of a cool sight.

Big commotion over a little fish. You did great on this shot, nice action grab and very pretty setting.
Gosh, I am sorry I just realized I jumped in while you were posting. Many nice flight shots and some great action shots. Intense aerial battles. Your killing me with that shot of all those eagles in the trees and flying about. I haven't seen that many eagles in a lifetime let alone all at once. That is fascinating...........I envy your outing. Very nice.

Man Dave these are great. I was Born and Raised in Burlington. I have been talkin to some folks back home and they have been telling me the BE population was HUGE right next to the new bridge (Well not new any more) But i've only seen it once

You have some real keepers here !! Nicely done

Fantastic seris Dave! My favorite is #1 - you captured thrilling action with the fish squabble. Number 3 is another keeper showing the eagle in all it's glory. Number 5 is truly amazing!! I counted 97 eagles. Your location put Homer Alaska to shame!! GENE

No wonder you guys can get good shots of eagles. How many exactly are in shot 5? The most I have ever seen at one time is 4 and they were to far away for me to get a good shot.

I really like 1 and 3. Keith

Dave, you have some great shots here -- and like the others I am amazed at how many eagles you had in that one spot. That is incredible! Thanks for sharing all of these.

Thanks guys.

Yes, this was from Burlington (by the bridge) and L&D #18.
A friend of mine counted the eagles on the full res. pic and came up with 123.
That's with a 400mm lens on a crop (30D) camera.
He did a pano, stitched 3 shots together and had over 300.

I went down there 3 times this year. One weekend the weather was great, the other two, not so good.
The last time we were there was 2 weeks ago, and for me, I'm done going there for this year.
As the weather warns up, the river loses it's ice, and the eagles can go where ever they want.
The best time to go is right after a week long cold snap.

Here are a couple more shots, just because.

A peregrine must live on the bridge, and I'm guessing that this eagle flew a little to close to his home.

A couple of Gotcha shots.

If only the skies had been clear for this one.

Later guys.

As much as all these shots are fantastic - - shot # 5 has me chocked. All those BEs all over the place...

No wonder you guys can get so many shots of Eagles..... Here there are none to be found.

I'm going down to the bran now - - - I'm depressed....

Dave, I swear that I could not have been more shocked by #5 than if I woke up with my tongue nailed to a board! That shot literally dropped my jaw. Just like Karl, I too have not seen that many eagles in a lifetime. You are a lucky, lucky man.

This series is wonderful. Great action shots and super detail in that last shot of the first series. Your final upload is a great pose and I do wish that you had better light that day (could have made that shot perfect, but as it is - it is still a very nice shot). Well done you lucky, lucky man!
