Shot this with my "poor man's macro" - i.e. a reversed EF50mm f/1.8 II mounted to my 18-55mm kit lens with a macro coupler. It's my first contest entry here, so all C&C is welcome.
EDIT: I worked a bit with perspective and lighting today and this is what I came up with. Thanks for the suggestions so far. I hope this is better!
Yeah, I grabbed an old logic board out of my closet...those little white specks are definitely dust. I might try to dust it off and try again tomorrow. I guess right now it doesn't really exemplify the idea of "new" Thanks for your advice!
As others have said, this image might be stronger if you made a few adjustments:
1. Cleaning up the board (if that is possible)
2. There are some nice interesting colors here, I wonder if you might be able to do something different with the lighting that would bring them out.
3. You might try shooting this from a low angle instead of the "generic" top-down view we often see of circuit boards. That might add some more interest to the shot.
Good Luck in this months assignment!
(By the way, have you also taken a look at the Weekly Assignment forum?)
Welcome to the forum. An interesting macro and definitely fits the MA. I do think I would like to see more focus on one or a couple of the transistors rather than the space in between, but that might just be me. Good luck.
Thanks for your continued input, everyone. I think the lighting change made all the difference vs. the original. I actually "painted" the light into the frame using my new Mini Maglite Something I've never tried before.
As for the focus, even with the kit lens at f/22 the DoF couldn't have been more than a millimeter or so (it was quite tricky). I am actually satisfied with where the focal point was, although I do see where you're coming from, Steve...that row of transistors in the background are just begging for attention.
I'm thinking of entering some of the WAs as well. Looks like I have quite the competition; I am loving all these technology shots!
