I have exactly the same problem, only the cameras are Canon 20D, with filenames like IMG_9000.JPG and Panasonic, with filenames like P1000444.JPG.
As recommended in the thread above I tried even Adobe bridge but when I sort ascending according to date, Panasonic photos (P!) come BEFORE Canon (I!).
I don't understand anything. I sort according to date and P comes before I. All filenames should be actually mixed according to date, but this?
I also used Irfanview (same sorting problem, BTW, obviously it's sorting engine is based on Windows) for batch renaming of all the files. The problem persists, when I try to sort ascending according to any date, Panasonic shots come first, regardless what the name of the file now is.
Does anybody have the same experience? (Winows XP, SP2)
Yes, this is what I suspected and checked this out.
Both cameras have correct settings and also in file properties I see correct time/date picture taken / file created.
But, the files simply won't sort that way.
How do you rename the files according to time/date? This would help, I think. But it must be automated process - you have script for this? Hmmm, never thought of that approach.
another easy way to sort by time assuming the times where set correctly on both cameras and yer using window xp is go to "my computer: find the directory yeh put then in, right click on where it says name on the column right click on it make sure "date created" is checked the click on "date created" it sort up or down.
If this doesn't work check what year/month/day each camera is set to the hour/min/seconds may be correct but the year/month/day may be off?
Martin, I use Downloader Pro. Yes, it is automated & bases the name on the EXIF shooting date/time stamp. I sort by filename, which automatically becomes chronological. I also have the camera model name embedded in the filename. I have not run into duplicate filenames so far.
