Two of my applications ... Adobe InDesign and Adobe Reader 8.0 ... will not print to my Epson printers from my Intel Mac. According to both Adobe and Epson, I will need a RIP driver to replace the Epson drivers. I use an Epson 1280, 1800 and wide-format 4000.
I've not used RIP drivers before and have no idea where to begin to search and evaluate the various brands. So I thought I'd look for some help here.
My main objective is to be able to print to my Epson 1280 from InDesign, which I purchased as an upgrade/ replacement for my older Pagemaker 7.0 app. I use InDesign for letterhead printing and also for self-promotion pieces that contain photography.
BTW, I had no trouble at all printing these same documents from Pagemaker or from InDesign on my non-Intel Mac.
Any help or links you can provide on reliable RIP software is appreciated. My Mac is running OS 10.4.11. Thanks....
It may be that they assume you want to print cmyk directly, in which case you do need a RIP. But you can convert to RGB and print throught the drivers. I never have printed directly from those apps so I can't tell you the steps. I usually just rasterize in Photoshop > Tiff > Print from Qimage.

The printers you mentioned all have drivers available from Epson for intel based Macs. A RIP is not required to print from these applications.
That's what I thought as well. I've installed all of the latest Epson drivers for Intel Mac, but the files still won't print. They load to the driver window just fine, but the printing process just stops dead. Printer goes into "Stop Printing" mode. A real puzzlement, because all of my other apps print just fine to these Epson printers.
It must be a setting in the Application print dialog that you are missing. As another poster mentioned you must set the application print dialog box to RGB if it does not automatically change. You can also set the paper profile from the application dialog (InDesign,Illustrator, Quark).

Nope...it's set to print RGB. Paper profile is also correctly set. Nothing I do enables printing from this app ... except when I switch to my non-Intel Mac.
Can you set up another box as a print server and print that way?
Cheaper than a RIP. I would not buy a RIP just to solve this, really a waste of money. Sorry though, don't know Macs.
My professional version of Adobe Acrobat allows for the selection of ICC profile in the printer dialog box, etc. I can't believe that couldn't print. Can you download a trial copy and see?
