p.1 #1 · Leopard vs. Tiger

For those who installed Leopard on your PowerPC Mac do you noticed much of a performance boost (or downgrade) when going from Tiger to Leopard? What's been your experience? I have a mac mini that's PowerPC-based and a Macbook that's Intel proc and wondered if it's worth it to do the upgrade?

I have a powerbook g4 and noticed no difference. Just like the features (spaces, time machine, coverflow, new finder layout, etc)

hobbes, go to www.macfixit.com It's THE troubleshooting site for the Mac. The opening Late-Breakers page has a running account of Mac OS update problems and possible solutions, and there's a forum. Many problems reported with Leopard!

Thanks for the URL. That's why I'm not in a rush to upgrade even though I already have the SW ready. I don't have a compelling need to get those new features since half of it is eye-candy and my computers aren't really graphic power houses to begin with. I do like the idea of time machine and spaces but those can wait til I upgrade to a mac pro later in the year.

I switched and switched back the same day. I found no reason to stay with the new. It seemed a little slow, and I didn't like the eye candy. I 'upgraded' instead of doing a clean install, but it was still slow.

I might reupgrade again later, but i'm quite content with Tiger.

Yeah, me too, sticking with Tiger for the time being. Everything is working!

On the Intel Macbook, definitely.

The upgrade failed, and I had to do a fresh install, but my MBP was new enough that I wasn't tied to its settings.

Seriously, you'll wonder how you ever lived without Spaces.
