No IS? I don't see a red ring either. What a rip-off!

Think of it this way. $23,000 for the lens. Another few hundred to modify to EOS mount. It's still a bargain!!

Why is the Hassy using a film back? For the money spent on such a big lens, you'd think the person would be able to afford a 39MP digital back.

Well, time to start searching for whoever's using that lens on google earth. With some luck, you'll probably see some rich sheik hiding in a bush somewhere stalking wild animals. The dozen sherpas that move the lens around will give him away.

I thought the 800 mm f/3.8 was quite revolutionary for a 1960s product... and much more portable at 15kg.

As the focus is by a bellows unit I think a cheapo non-optical FD to EOS adapter might do it............just the job for cheapskates!

Nope. Weighing in at about 2000kg:

Without a mirror, this will remain the largest unless technology changes.

That is not a camera lens, that is a telescope

Yeah, well - non-mirror camera lenses ARE refracting telescopes. (Mirror lenses are reflecting telescopes, usually Maksutov-Cassegrains.)

The Yerkes is the largest refractor possible without gravity making the lens sag.
