p.1 #1 · More D300 Samples!

Hello,
Just received the D300 with a grip last friday and wow what a performer. I took it yesterday to a basketball game and messed around and shot some stuff. I was amazed on how fast the AF works and the quality of high ISO's are. All of these are ISO 3200. I still lots to learn and can't wait to explore this camera in depth in the summer with birding and landscapes.

2. Half-time game

3.

Thoughts on this crazyiness camera?

Lovely, The shot of #23 in the air is stellar. It's impressive how good 3200 looks in a well exposed photo like that.

What AF settings did you favor for shooting basketball? (it's not something I hardly ever do)

Wow, that's impressive indeed!

You're getting similar noise as I would probably get from iso 400 in my D80. Do you have NR on?

Jammy, I used 21 AF mostly since it was a good middle ground. The 3D tracking is a mess with all the colors but I am interested to see how the tracking works on birding. Dynamic 21 AF is amazing though. I have it set for the middle point then pretty much if the player's focus leaves that point instantly it tracks it in the 21 different points and locks on. Its quite the AF system. I still have tons to learn.

falconbach, I use NR set at Low. I have read countless places that it takes away the excess noise while not thwarting detail. I would never go higher then Low on NR.

Yeah, it's great having such a usable ISO3200 for indoor sports work for sure. It's certainly changed my opinion of using ISO3200 in order to get the little shutter speed boost I often need, where before I would sometimes sacrifice shutter more easily to get cleaner more detailed and saturated images.
