1 does not seem to have any point in focus. This does not work for me.

2 does not seem to have any point in focus. This does not work for me.

3 has some area in focus but the background is distracting and the horse in front it cut through.

4th the blurred horse in front is competing with the in focus item. The back is distracting.

I think:
Pick one item to be in focus and keep things out from in front of it and make the background more constant. Perhaps a slightly lower perspective.

1 & 2 I was playing with the DOF and focusing on the King or Queen. I was doing the same thing with 3 & 4 focusing of the pawns and I even thought of corny titles like, "the fading knight", "The crack of pawn" or "the rise of the pawns".

I do have a few shots with a lower perspective some of them seem too busy but that is just a matter of me trying to get good composition or al least something I would think is not too busy here is the link to all of the shots your opinion would be truly appreciated:
