Hi everyone,
Last night I started migrating to new servers. I'm doing this in order to make the site faster and more reliable. The company that I'm working with assured me that it would only take a couple minutes with virtually no downtime. (So, I didn't even mention it thinking it would not be an issue)
However, things didn't go as planned -- as some of you may have noticed. The site has been on and off and there are quite a few glitches we have run into.
Please be assured that I'm aware of what is going on and I'm doing my best to fix it as fast as possible. Thanks for your patience and understanding as I try to make the site faster and more efficient.
Image Upload is having some problems and if you notice anything else, please send me a PM and I will work through this as fast as possible.
As I work in the software industry there is a joke. The more one tries to say how easy/effortless/quickly a change is going to be the more hard/disruptive/long time will it actually take.

Glad it ended up ok. It looked pretty bleak last nite for about 7 hours there. Missed my addictive quota from the FM forums, though. But at least no one else was able to buy out from under me that 1200mm f2.8 for sale in the B & S forum either.
I would most definitely agree with the above poster, even the simplest of changes can often cause the significant difficulties. I will often put a new site up on "back pages" to allow thorugh or at least easier testing before making it public. The same can be done for a server host change, though the handling of the DNS change is a bit more involved. If you need people to help by proofing a new site or efeature before making it active, you can count on me to help and I'm sure there are others who would also help.
Everything was working fine on the new servers until we actually made the change. We were trying to connect all webservers to the new database (old webserver and new ones) to avoid DNS issues for some members. That ended up being the problem since they were located in different datacenters..
Sumarizing...In trying to make the transition smoother, it ended up putting new and old servers down for quite a while. It was only when I was about to give up and roll it back to the old servers that we realized what the problem was...
I had to pull a all-nighter but I'm glad it all worked out.
Now we have 2 powerful webservers on a load balancer and a very nice msql server.
It is very nice to see this happening. FM has been so slow for so long, that I very rarely come here anymore. I got spoiled when I first joined, as everything always jumped up onto my monitor all the time. Now I hope to start spending more time here again.
