p.1 #1 · Busted on the Knot

If you get the idea to pose as a bride and post something on the forums in the Knot, you might want to remember this before you do.

For a while now, a bride was posting information about a DJ and a photographer. The nickname she used was also very similar to that of the photographer she was promoting. It had crossed my mind that this could be a vendor post. As it turns out, a newly engaged bride found her way to the same forum. This newly engaged bride just so happened to be a private investigator. In fact, her slogan at the bottom of her post read, "In God I trust, everyone else I investigate." This statement was proven true when she made it her life's mission to bust the photographer.
She tracked down the website, the IP address, her blog, and post on other weddings sites. You would not believe the number of links she came up with to prove she was right. Once she had all her information, she blew the whistle. She blasted her on 4 different threads. The photographer finally came clean after first stating that she was the sister-in-law to the photographer and not the photographer. She was backed into a corner and decided to apologize.

Once she admitted that she had posed as a bride, the investigator bride removed her post. I have seen other brides blow the whistle before, but nothing like this. Although the photographer was wrong in what she did, the bride took it way too far and became obsessed at proving her point. I really wouldn't want to do this girl's wedding. She even referred to herself as a real b****. I would hate for her to find out that I was a really bad kid in the 2nd.grade. Yvette

Oof, that sounds like not a bit of fun. It seems like The Knot has a lot of push for brides and so I suppose it's inevitable that someone would do that. What a fool to use a similar name etc, stupid criminals are the worst. I'm sure there are other photogs on the Knot as we speak adapting their strategies.

Ouch.

A lot of photogs are Knotties ('cause they're getting married themselves) and "let slip" that they're wedding photogs.

In my area of SC. There is another guy that has been doing it for years. I have watched him get married, and then come back 2 years later under the same name.

Here's a funny Knot story;

For a while a few years ago I would post on my local Knot board. I always identified myself as a photographer and used my real name. When I read a question that I felt I could answer to help I did so. For example, questions about particular venues and the best time of the day to shoot there, etc. I never got into any of the photographer bashing or tried to hide who I was. Then one day I received an email from a moderator to let me know that my profile had been deleted because vendors were not allowed to post. That was after a number of Knot brides (none of whom were my clients) had started a thread to thank me for my help and praise me for not blatantly marketing my business. After I was banned one of them emailed me to ask what happened and I told her. She then started another thread "In praise of Rick Rosen" and many brides jumped in to criticize the Knot for not allowing me to continue to participate on their boards.

I never received a booking from the Knot as I am way beyond the budget of their typical bride.

I'm seen other Vendors do that as well Rick. One of them were banned, and then allowed to come back because she had recently been a bride. There is also another girl that got married two years ago and she's a regular giving advice about facilities, DJ's, etc. She somehow did one wedding with a girl that posted on the Knot and now she recommends her all the time. I'm not sure how they get away with it, but she has her web address at the bottom of each post.
Vendors are not supposed to post, but I make it a daily read. I had one bride that bashed our Trash the Wedding Dress Event. I found 3 different threads about it and her throwing stones at us. We did her brother's wedding and she had also met with us about doing her. She said we were aweful, which I knew she was just ticket because the event was the day before her wedding and couldn't participate. I got her email and first tried to be nice and reason with her. When I saw another post, I emailed all her Vendors and told them how she liked to express herself. I also called the sister-in-law and point blank asked were they happy with their wedding pictures. Within a couple of hours, all her post were deleted. I think it's important to see what people say on the boards. You never know they could be spreading lies just because they can. Yvette
