i apologize for my comment about 'bowing down' to the pics. its just that all too often i've been the one who has tried to advocate for shooting in context (NOT guy in the sky). and it gets sorta frustrating to always see positive re-enforcement on techniques that aren't the best (in advance anyone who disagrees with me on this, and already has discussed it please leave it out of this thread. PM me if you've got beef)
and what i meant with 'don't understand number 2' is not that i don't understand what is happening. its that i don't understand why that picture was being taken. there isn't really action from it or anything that particularly would want a person to look at it.
all my ranting being said you've still done a pretty good job
i'm really stoked for world cup half pipe to come to my home (calgary) late in February. i shot there last year with little to no knowledge, and hope to do a lot better
half pipe is defiantly frustrating to shoot during an event because your almost exclusivly limited to the deck of the pipe
I'll chime in on the "guy in the sky" topic as well. Basically, for any action sports you need your shots to show the riders overall position in what they are doing. By not including the lip of the ramp you lose the context and can't tell if the rider is boosting 20 feet out or a foot above the deck. Find a creative angle, dial in a solid composition that incorporates the feature, and focus on which tricks and rider's styles work best for the angle you chose.
