If you have the software disk(s), you have the "driver". "Drivers" are software, not hardware.

I think what you say you are missing is the cabel to connect to the computer, correct?

Hi,
Thank you for your quick reply and help.
I do have the USB cable and it is working correctly. The software disk which came with the camera is called "Digital Camera Solutions Disk" and installs 3 programs only i.e. ZoomBrowser EX, PhotoStitch, EOS Utility. Maybe their should have been 2 disks!
Anyway, I connected the cable, camera and my laptop together and switch the camera on. A message appears saying "Canon Digital Camera - New Hardware Found" and the windows wizard starts. This now gives me 2 options.
1. Install the software automatically ( The software disk is still in the CD Drive)
2. Install from a list or specific location (C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS) and C:\Program\Canon

I have tried both and Both fail to connect the camera to my Laptop.
I have removed the device from my Device Manger in Control Panel\Hardware before trying each option as windows reports a problem with this device "Software not installed"

Could their be a device disk missing from the Box I am using Windows XP SP2

I also have a 20D, but do not use any of the software that came with the camera.

First, install the software without the camera being connected to the computer. Once the installation is complete, connect the camera.

If memory serves me right, Zoombrowser should allow you to see the images on the CF card in your camera.

Ummmmm, you do have the camera turned on, don't you? The camera has to be "on" for the images to show up. Is there a CF card in the camera? Are there images on the card? Just checking for the obivous, which at times is the not-so-obvious.

Another way to check to see if the computer is "seeing" the camera is to open "My Computer". If it is working properly, the camera should show up as an additional drive in the file tree.

...and IIRC EOS Utility is the one you use to shoot tethered. Also, the camera has two communications settings, PTP, and uhh...something else. That has to be set correctly for the camera to be recognized--I don't recall which, check the manual.

Thank you very much for all your suggestions
I have now sorted the problem as suggested the Camera it's self has two communication settings! Press Menu select communication the two choices are "Normal" and "PTP" Just select "PTP" problem solved.
Thanks very much

I have a 20D camera...
I am trying to connect to a new system loaded with Vista 64 bit OS
I have loaded all updated applications from canon web sit
I updated camera firmware...
Canon support says they do not have a driver for Vista 64.
Does anyone know of a workaround or a 3rd party driver?

Thanks
Mike

Re: Windows XP SP2

Shouldn't XP just recognize the camera as a removable storage device?

What are you trying to accomplish?

If you just want to extract your images from the CF card, Windows Explorer
should recognize the camera as a storage device....

Personally, I'd recommend a CF card reader.

If you're trying to accomplish something else, I'll just be quiet

As stated previously, buy a card reader. They are cheap and faster than connecting the camera.

I use the EOS capture... This allows a large preview just after taking the picure.
It's very handy to look at a pic on a 24" screen to allow adjustments. This saves me a TON of time. I done the card reader thing... Just wanted to get back to using the EOS capture tools.... They are very nice.
So.... without a driver, I out of luck!
Thanks Canon!!!!

Yes I can see the images thru Zoom Browser.
I need the EOS Utility to function. This requires Canon to write a driver for Vista 64.
That shouldn't be so hard. Just wondering if there is a 3rd party driver out there

Thanks
Mike
