I feel that in the past few months the general atmosphere on the the Canon gear forum has improved significantly.
It's more relaxed now, convivial and constructive, with an added bonus of good natured humour here and there.
There is less of a DPR quarrelsome and endlessly argumentative syndrome, fewer members go around correcting spelling mistakes, more tolerance of younger member's posts and questions.
That's a good news indeed, for arrogance and social ignorance, while they often go hand in hand, do not make a pleasant forum.
I'm relatively new to the forum and have been blown away by how mellow things are. I'm used to public forums being total nightmares, but everyone here seems so civil. It's nice.
I thought I remembered this post...all of this went to hell in a handbasket! The Canon forum is terrible right now. There seems to be a little group of very vocal Nikon shooters and 'Canon shooters that hate Canon and won't switch to Nkon' sucking up huge amounts of time and bandwidth with tons of both little and big chips on their shoulders. The thing is turning into DP and it is a shame having been an FM member for so long...a small minority can really screw things up.
What is odd is that this does not happen on the Nikon board...but it is changing the tone on the Canon board dramatically.
I've had quite a few emails from friends that are just about done with it because it is a total waste of time...virtually nill of actual Canon Gear talk, and what there is, is disrupted by trolls.
Nothing to be done I guess in this kind of internet forum but I sure hope it does not continue because FM's reputation for being a fairly reasonable discussion forum seems to be changing very fast.
I'll just stick to the boards that discuss actual photography because at least those are not seeing this problem.
Which is better anyway because really, gear is gear...and that ain't photography.

You have that right. While posts about NAPP and B&H photoshop upgrades are of interest, they don't belong on the Canon forum. The general perception is that the Canon forum gets more traffic, therefore it's the best place to post, regardless of the subject matter.
Fred, can you appoint another moderator for the Canon forum?
Very well said Shayne. The one's you speak of are the one's that used Nikon a few years ago and switched when Nikon let them down. Now they're at it again. I loved to be able to give about 5 of them the money they need to go back to Nikon, just so long as they promise never to come back and even post of this site again.
There is so much BS in the Canon SLR section that shouldn't be there. I joined here because everybody talk about how good it is here because of the information. I'm finding more information without the bull in other forums now.
DPlite a getting old. I hope the ones of you with the background and knowledge can whether the storm for a bit. If moderated better things can get better.
I totally agree Shane. Hopefully the bickering will start to subside once PMA is over and we can get back to meaningful gear discussions. Certainly hope so. Plus, a full time moderator would be a blessing.
I wasn't sure when I read this if I read it wrong or if the OP was joking. IMO it has gone a looong ways downhill over the last few months and a moderator is definatly in need. I hope it won't be too obtuse to say this in the open but If I have to wade through the non-sense to find something meaningfull I personally would begin to question if I wanted to continue to pay to participate.
