These are a couple of previously taken shots from the badland area behind Big Water near Page AZ. This is on the road Alstrom Point, and the Escalante Wilderness. It consists of some typical fractured soil, and a bunch of fallen rocks under a massif called for unknown reasons, Nipple Bench. I have no idea why. I can't drive by this turn off without taking a 3 mile detour to look at the area. The first shot gives some scale to the rockpile. If you look a bit below dead center, you will see my buddy. The wide angle lens makes him a bit smaller than he should be. Quite a rockpile. I just need to get there for better light. Maybe next time. As always, I think what I should have shot afterward. http://i.pbase.com/o4/99/15999/1/91828757.IVJYsTzl.Badlands2NippleBenchupload.jpg http://i.pbase.com/o4/99/15999/1/91828767.cT11vIya.nipplebench1upload.jpg
i like the scale of the 1st Tim , and the friend is a neat inclusion. The light is a bit flat and featureless but still a nice shot. The 2nd is better , a nice compo and a bit better light too
Thanks for sharing these , i have never seen this area
What a neat area. I really like #2. There is so much texture to those rocks, I would think they would be amazing in B&W. You didn't get any IR shots of them?
Hey guys
Thanks for the comments. This was just a few months before IR gear. I now wnat to go back and reshoot lots of old sites again in IR. I seem to be there at just the wrong moment. I treat the area as a secondary spot, and that's probably a mistake. I did shoot it in black and white in some overcast conditions. I'll have look back and see what I find. For scale, the balanced rock is about 75 feet tall. and it is hard to back up and get it in the best comp.
That's an amazing pile of rocks and your buddy certainly gives the image scale even if it is a wide angle. Lot of textures and good color and lots of clouds! Fine shots Tim!

Hi Tim,
I remember passing this place on my way to AP a few years ago, it's awesome. You've portrayed the scale well by using your pal. It's absolutely huge. It's a shame your light wasn't more co-operative. Excellent shots nevertheless

Beautiful textures and detail. The inclusion of the person for scale is very effective. The size of the formations would otherwise be impossible to discern. Good work.
Tim,
Very nice images.
When looking at the first image the rock appears smaller than it really is until you see your friend. Nice perspective. #2 is excellent with the texture in the forground rock. Well done.
