p.1 #1 · Buck Shadow (The Shadow Knows)

Buck Shadow (The Shadow Knows)

I spotted a bull elk and while tying to stalk in closer I found a Mule Deer Buck laying down in the sun. I didn't want to disturb him so I back off and went around. He looked so peaceful.

Where the elk was that I found with a close up.

Looks like the buck found the only place where there was no snow. He does look a bit bored, the gals musta gone to town. What great images you are getting, this Winter. You are getting beyond the P&S stage..

The first picture with the close up and the landscape is nice, it looks like it would make a great postcard.

The elk photos all appear to suggest he knows exactly where you are!

Great stuff considering what you had to work with. Thanks for sharing!

You must be one heck of a guide to be able to spot these in the terrain. Nice shots!

Good idea on the postcard, we use our photos for the postcards we carry in the Hotel gift shop.

Thanks Andy, actually I used a Cow Elk call to stop him before he went on over the ridge so he is looking for the Cow Elk.

Thanks for the nice words. Scouting for wildlife is pretty much what I have been doing since I was a kid and I am 65 now so lots of years of practice. I believe after training your eyes it becomes second nature to see them.

I did get closer to him from the background shot. That is why I call my photos Spot & Stalk photos. I try to get a photo of him where I found him and then a close up after I stalk in closer. I used my 1D Mark 3 and my Canon 500mm lens with a 1.4 converter. Thanks for the nice words.
