As some of you may know I asked FM'rs if anyone had an old film camera that needed a good home. I wanted to supply my good friend and photo assistant, Hendricks, with a good camera, one that could ultimately be used to earn extra dollars to feed his family (he may start by taking pictures at meetings for attendees and work his way up to weddings). The response has been so good that we, Hendricks and I, decided to form a photo club for local Malawians with any of the donated film SLR cameras.
Our first camera arrived today and I gave it to Hendricks (who by the way has 7 kids and no electricity or running water). I will start photo basics 101 with Hendricks this week. Thanks to H. Grant Rice for the first camera donation!! (hope you dont mind me using your name, the note and camera in the photo are yours)
Here is a note from Hendricks to H. Grant Rice......
Dear Sir,
First I would like to thank you because for the gift of camera that you have given me. So much as I like taking Pictures and I am very happy for this gift. May the God bless you.
Yours, Hendricks
If other FM’ers have old film SLR cameras that would like to donate to a good home. Please PM me, I have a US mailing address and I promise a photo of the recipient and the donated camera!
Kind Regards
Mark

Congrats Mark. Looks like you are doing great things to help improve the lives of these people. They look quite humble and thankful.
This is a really good thing that you are doing. There must be plenty of people here on FM who could contribute items which they are no longer using. What better way to recycle some of that old gear that is laying around gathering dust than to put it into the hands of somebody who can make good use of it.
I have three film SLR's I can send you - A Canon 500N, a Nikon F90X and an Olympus OM10. I will dig out some Canon and Olympus lenses as well -unfortunately I don't have a Nikon lens to offer. Perhaps somebody else on FM would be willing to contribute something they're no longer using.
I will send them directly to you in Malawi if you can PM me your address.
If anyone else in Ireland wishes to contribute anything, please PM me and I'll be happy to add any items to the parcel in order to reduce shipping costs.

I posted the parcel to you yesterday. I had hoped to get a lens for the Nikon but was unable to do so. I've PM'ed you the tracking number. I'm away next week but will be in touch when I get back if I can persuade anyone else to contribute!
Mark, the list that I wrote about is now in the mail, along with a photo of the donors, in exchange for one from the recipients. Good luck with this project, Larry.
