Great concept and well done. I guess I am different than Jason but for some reason I want to see both the aces in sharp focus. Not sure why, it just seems unbalanced to me with only the the one on the right in sharp focus. Just my two cents take it for what it is worth. Good luck.
Hi Bill! I like it! Great unique idea, and good motion. My only tiny critique is the 'table top.' It looks uneven, but that might be caused by the DOF? Great lighting, and framing. Very well done!
Thank you Karen, you have a sharp eye and I picked up on the same myself. However, please be aware that this is a self portrait done with a timer. The focus was set from the one side of the table, after which I moved to the other side, set the timer off and picked up the deck. Started shuffling when the cam light started blinking after 10 seconds. Low lighting, aperture 3.2, 1/2.5 sec for the blur and then hoped it would work! This was the best of about twenty attempts.
This is what I like about assignments - using imagination and thought about how to capture a concept. Sometimes it works and other times.........

Thanks for the input Philly with which I agree. Partly DOF I think and also a bit of uneven cloth. Ideally, this would have been shot on a baize covered card table or even a pool table.
Agree w/ Philly that I wish the table cloth was taught.
In addition, I'd prefer that the Ace that's in focus (spades) to be first - on the bottom - and the other one (hearts) behind it.
But I like the focus, and especially the lighting being right on the Ace of spades.
Nice entry!
