p.1 #1 · #277 Starting a New Day

Well I am new at this, so here is a first posting to this forum. I thought of this tonight and gave it a shot...

http://www.pbase.com/cliffwarner/image/91384230/original.jpg

Note that I replaced the first one with a new copy that has full exif data. I must have messed up the first one when generating it. Note the exif data does not include the stack of extension tubes I added to the 90mmTS-E.

Thanks for all the very positive comments! I certainly hope to do a lot more in these forums. I have been in a bit of a rut and want to break out of that. This shot turned out better than I thought and was different from my initial notion as to what I was going to do. I took this while working on my setup and realized that the second hand did things I was not expecting (the little steps).

GREAT photo.
Can you tell us how you captured the second hand??
Is that the second hand progressing... or done in Photoshop?
Either way, and excellent image and entry!
Welcome to the WA!

Again, Thanks for all the positive comments.

Carrol, This was captured by a 1.3 second exposure. My only processing, in Lightroom, was a slight crop on the top to remove a distracting element and to adjust white balance and typical sharpening. The step-like motion of the second hand is a consequence of the watch mechanism. I had initially thought that the motion would be a blur, but the micromovement of the hand resulted in this really cool set of steps. So in a way it is total serendipity.

I just saw this and I'm speachless.... I hoped I might do this by the end of the year, but never expected it with the first one. Very cool!

Thanks Philly Rains!

Very nice shot, its a little confusing looking at where the hand starts and ends, also does the hand stop at the 12 mark for a little longer?

Might just be me but it looks like its going anti clockwise?

very nicely done capture though. Congrats, you done an awesome job.

Can I just ask what sort of lighting and environment you were in when you took this?

Thanks for the positive comments. To answer your questions, there are two hands. The minute hand (wide one) at just before 12:00, and the second hand which is really thin and makes the steps. Many people commented that it looks like it is going anticlockwise, but that is not the case. However, that impression fits in with the theme.

Lighting was by a single OTT-Lite I use on my desk set up on an oblique angle. I used a 90mm TS-E with extension tubes and a 1.4x converter to get the magnification.
