As I was spending Hogmanay (New Year's festival) up in Glasgow, I had to re-visit the wonderful Glen Etive (about 70mins from Glasgow) as I do every time I go to Scotland.
This trip was, however, somewhat of a re-discovery for me. I had met up with DV-Dimitri for a day's shooting in the area of Bridge of Orchy, Rannoch Moor, Glen Etive, Glen Coe. A snowstorm was imminent, and we chased the snow-flakes all day. Dimitri had deduced, from several of my pictures he had seen, that I did not know all the spots that are to be had in the area; and so he offered to show me some new perspectives of a place that we both loved intensely. Not only that but he offered to let me use his Sigma 12-24 for the afternoon, which was another boon of his kindness.
Having plonked my right foot into an icy bog on Rannoch Moor and with the light and stormy clouds chasing themselves around the sites as we waited for the gloom to lift, we finished on the moor and descended into Glen Etive itself. You can see a super image by Dimitri from the top of the Glen (https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/602511 "The Guardian of Glen Coe"). I may pluck up the courage - later - to post another pic from a similar spot (but not yet ): instead, this is a shot of the river as it barrells down the Glen, taken from one of the perspectives that Dimitri showed me. Thanks Dimitri!
The river flows round a curve and then plunges on down the glen, past the coloured stones and the russet, brakeny, rocky colours of the Scottish Landscape. This is looking away from the flow of water. Go there if you can!
I had been looking forward to a few of your pictures from this meeting
Lovely composition, great colours, with just the right amount of blur in the water!
A memory from last year and a teaser for next. I love it!!
I love the perspective in this, Martin! The russet colors, rocks, river, slopes and the atmosphere combine to make a deep and beautiful composition.
Really nicely done!
The storm clouds and wide sweeping perspective of the thrashing water makes this a GEM to behold. What a wonderful gift Dimitri has introduced you to, Martin.
Martin: A great exposition of your talent. I love the openings you have created in this image. And perfect speed on the water. Wow. I do want to go there.
