The subject keeps popping up here in this forum and has been address well ant there are good tutorials. Still I pit together a little package on the subject. I created a zip file that contains three small files. ProofMark.psd a template for creating a custom shape. ProofMark.csh a Photoshop custom shape made from the template and ProofMark.atn a Photoshop action to place it on a image.
All the ProofMark.psd template is a 1000x1000 pixel image that contains three text layers a couple of guide lines and three paths. The Path ate used as text paths. The way one makes a Photoshop Brush or Custom Shape out of these three text layers is to select all the text. The easiest way to do that is as follows. Press and hold the ctrl key and left click on the "T" icon in the layers pallet in the top layer. keep holding the Ctrl key and now also press and hold the shift key and left click on "T" icon in the other two text layers. Let go of the Ctrl and Shift keys. All the text should now be selected. At this point you can create a Photoshop Brush if you wanted to by using menu Edit>Define Brush Preset. I don't use a brush for watermarks some do. Instead at this point I go to the Paths pallet and click on the fourth icon in to bottom of the pallet. The circle with two lines handles. Clicking this icon creates a work path out of the current selection out text. Now use menu Edit>Define Custom Shape. In the custom shape dialog name the custom shape ProofMark. The name ProofMark is important for the Proof Mark action uses that custom shape name.
The action is quite simple and easy to change. First it scales the image to 8" wide. It does not change the image pixel size at all. it just changes it scale so the custom shape can be sized properly. Next it places the custom shape on a shape layer an approbate size in the upper left hand corner using a 50% gray color. The Action then adds a layer style to this layer making its fill 0 adds a drop shadow, outer glow and an inner bevel emboss. This renders the mark transparent. The layer is then named Proof Mark and moved to become the top layer. Next the action positions the layer into the center of the image by selection all and aligning the layer to the vertical and horizontal centers. the action ends with a deselect.
It is a simple task to change the ProofMark shape by editing the template PSD file. Change the Font and text. You play with the text Pixel size to get the proof mark right. I believe the Fonts I used in the template are standard fonts. I use other fonts myself. It also simple to change where it is positioned by the action by rerecording the alignment steps in the action. Don't forget to get to save the action if you change it.
The supplied ProofMark placed by the action would look like this on an image the image here is a Photoshop gradient.

Here is the zip file. http://www.mouseprints.net/old/dpr/ProofMark.zip

I added a second action Copyright Text Layer that add a text layer to the bottom Right hand corner. Rerecord the make text layer step to change font and text. Don't forget to save the changed action. A third action will play both actions that will add both marks and produce and image like this:
