Dear Mark,

That is a striking composition! The wing is such an important component of the image, but it doesn't overpower it, and the cloudscape and sea beneath are wonderful. Nicely done from what must have been 32H

Anyone ever had a water leak under their foundation? Boy is this fun! I noticed a wet spot along the side of our house a few days ago so I did a little investigating. At first I thought it was a sprinkler head leaking, but no such luck, it's a leak in the copper piping in, or beneath the slab. So, what a fun way to drop 4 grand. They think they can repair it by digging a large tunnel under our home, this based upon what their leak detection gear showed them today.

I think I'd rather spend 4k in Crazy Horse!

Jim, I had a leak in my bedroom that cost me $3,300. They capped that hot water line, then ran a new on in the attic. I thought that was better than bringing jack hammers into the bedroom.

No foundation work, but I had three access holes cut into the sheetrock.

Slab leaks are a pain. Haven't had one myself but my Dad did several years ago down in Tucson. Had a nice foxhole in the middle of his living room for about two weeks.

Well, depending on which news outlook you believe, it seems like Democrats and Republicans are both putting on a good show of "trying to come to an agreement" but it seems like they're both just as willing to just let the cuts kick in as of March 1st. Republicans want the spending cuts (minus the military aspects), and the entitlement reform that the mandatory sequestration is going to get them, and the Democrats want the cuts to defence spending and the increased taxes, and both sides (again depending on which outlet you belive) seem to believe that they may not be able to get a better deal than the one that the cuts is going to force them in to...definitely not booking my tickets for Alliance until we get some solid news on it, since the Navy has said that if the cuts kick in the Blue Angels will be grounded for the year (I've already expressed my opinion of the fact that this isn't saving any money, it's just pissing off the people that are paying the tax dollars to keep them flying)

Ah well, on to happier news. We bought ourselves a Hot Tub, can't wait to get it installed on the deck. It's been above freezing here for the last little while, could have been soaking in the hot tub already if it was installed. Oh wait...Y'all call them spas don't you...

I don't think they'll know an answer for sure until after March 1st, but would be interested to see what their current perspective on it is.

Interesting to see the difference between the AF and Navy on this. I like the Navy approach of going until told to stop from a fan of airshows, but the AF assuming the worst is probably the more likely outcome.

Just an opinion mind you, but I think you'll find that these early cancellations are due, in large part, to Base Commanders and PAOs not knowing what they'll have for resources once the cuts kick in.

Consider how much stuff needs to be rented for a large-scale open house and how many people it takes to wrangle such an event.

Pile all this on top if their normal day to day activities and I'm sure many are throwing their hands up in frustration and taking the path of least resistance.

I would also say that if cuts come in the F-22's trip to Abbotsford is on my very unlikely to happen list, which is too bad. It was supposed to go to Abbotsford 2 years ago, but they go grounded right before the show and they ended up getting the A-10 instead, not that I was complaining mind you...I love the A-10 demo.

I don't see why they should cancel the F-22 Demo teams schedule though, much like my thoughts on the Blues, it's all money that is being spent on flight hours regardless, it might as well be spent on flight hours that entertain a couple million people a year. The waiting game is driving me nuts...lol.

My last few years in the TxANG I was the production scheduler. I negotiated flying hours/sorties with the base commander and Deputy Commander Operations (DCO). I negotiated hours based on maintenance capabilities, the DCO negotiated hours to keep his pilots qualified and trained. (We had an air to air mission, so our daily flying was geared at keeping our aircrews qualified to fly intercept missions. An Air Training Command base would have additional requirements for the training program.) This included cross country requirements for each pilot. We tried to coordinate the cross country flights with air show static display/arial demonstrations to other bases. We did this to encourage reciprocity when we had an air show.

That being said, the cross country requirements for pilots probably still exist. The major cost is the fuel. They can save fuel by flying to local bases. During our fuel crunch in the late '80's/early 90's, we flew CC to San Antonio or Austin.

Whoah, that is some levitating bull!

As for Violet Crumbles, I have never encountered them, but the cutaway picture on the wrapper there looks a lot like a Crunchie bar. Maybe I will have to bring some back from the UK...
