p.2 #1 · Northern Hawk Owl

Awesome Work. You should set up a work shop and charge people, except for, me because I conjured up the idea. Where were these taken. I saw a similar owl at work today(new Hampshire, U.S.)......... the one day I don't bring my camera and bingo a potential good/great shot gone and past.

I think I've officially run out of compliments for you, Jody. What can I say that hasn't been said a thousand times before? Unbelievably beautiful shots... I really can't believe that some publisher hasn't nailed you down yet.

It's the same owl raymondjbarlow posted Dec 25th...
Same tree, same carving in the wood Same print on it's forehead.

You two shoot together or is it a coincidence ?

Great shots Jody... I love seeing your bird photography, and these are no exception (stellar)

Mercapto - it seems RaymondJBarlow has some misgivings about Bird Baiting after this shoot
http://www.pbase.com/raymondjbarlow/image/90785371

I personally see nothing wrong with it... after all most Nature Lovers have Bird feeders in there backyard and photograph them

Ah ok.
Well he has a point, but so do you, it's a matter of personal opinion vs hypocrisy. How much is an opinion worth when under slightly different conditions you do the same thing...

Personally I have a problem with shooting Zoo animals, but not with pets.
I also don't like feeding wild animals just to lure them into my frame, but when that same animal gets attracted to picknick baskets (), trash or decides to wonder into the suburbs I'll be the first one to fill up my CF card...
And to compare a sparrow that nests in your backyard to an owl that stays far away from civilisation until civilisation intrudes it's habitat and starts tossing dead mice at the naive little fluffster...
But then there are those silly bald eagles that feed off of fishhatcheries and trashheaps...

There is no black, there is no white, it's all different shades of grey....

Fantastic shots, Jody, I was wondering how you managed to get so close to a northern hawk owl (I live in Alberta and see them regularly, yet have never managed to get even remotely this close to them, wild hawk owls are extremely skittish birds!), but the mice and voles explains it. Still remarkable captures, though, great work.

these are killer shots Jody, and it was fun shooting with you and the other guys. Ya, I am not a big fan of baiting, but it sure doesn't mean everyone needs to think like I do. We all have our own opinions., and we all are some kind of human influence when we are out shooting. So long as we have respect for the animal or bird, there is no issue, but it can get out of hand., and I didn't see that happening while I was out with Jody and the guys., and it was fun.

Like Jody says, there is no right or wrong, its just a matter of opinion.

Stunning shots, Jody --- an absolute delight to view.

I love his "look" in #3. The flight shots are amazing, especially #9 & #12, and the still shots are really cool too.

Also appreciate the educational remarks at the beginning. Thanks!

Really a very nice series on this raptor Jody. One of the features the raptor center shows when it gives demo shows to the public is to show the difference in noise between a red tail flight feather and a barred owl flight feather by swishing both through the air. As you have said the owl (all of them) is silent while the red tail sounds like Tiger Woods swinging a golf club, a big swisching noise. Not to shabby on eye site either or hearing. You have shown some really great photos of most likely one of the worlds most feared raptors, the owl. BTW I was wondering wht number trigger are you up to on the BH

Sorry Randall, I don't make a lot from the birds/wildlife. People love looking at them, but don't like to pay for 'em so much.

Thanks!
