p.1 #1 · Scan settings for MF film

I am going to start scanning my MF shots from my Holga. If I intend to make prints about 10x10inches, what would be a good scan setting? DPI and target size?

I've never scanned film before.

Cheers.

What are you scanning with?
I've had good results using an Epson Perfection4490,settings were:-

Image Type - 24 bit colour
Scanning Quality - Best
Resolution - 600 dpi
Target Size - Original
Scale - 200%
Unsharp Mask filter - On
Grain Reduction & Dust Removal - as required

Rendered about 20Mb file, plenty for your 10 x 10

3200 dpi
16bit
get the colors as good as i can in the scanner software
usually don't do any noise reductions

the V700 does a really nice job and it is relatively fast

I finish the image up in photoshop

Henrik

ps: you specify that you want it to be 10x10" today, in which you would probably need 3000 pixels in total across the 2 1/4 inch of the format, but I would still scan at higher resolution and make a multi purpose file, that I can use to upsize or down size depending on my need, but I only need to do the hard work once!!!! YMMV best of luck

Steve/Henrik:

Are you using the Epson software or VueScan?
