My studio is in the basement of my home and I presently have my home owners insurance and my business insurance with American Family. While looking for better rates several companies have said that they can't offer a home owners policy if I have a home based business with customers coming and going out of my home. I'm small time, usually I never have more than one sitting a day.
Anyone have any suggestions as to whom I might contact for a quote?
This issue the company has regards liability. If someone is hurt in or around your home, your homeowners policy pays. This is based on an average number of people that might visiti a home. If you have people coming to your home for business, they expect the traffic flow to be greater. They are not willing to take the risk.
State Farm offers a package specific for in-home businesses.
We have a building policy with Traveler's and a business policy with The Hartford. We had a burglary last year and a bunch of computer and photo equip was stolen. Hartford was very prompt and fair about the claim. Also I think State Farm might be able to work with you.
Erie will do it. If you never shoot outside your home you can add business insurance for like $50/ year!
I, however, shoot weddings...so erie is my homeowners and zurich is my business insurance.
No clue if a client fell in my driveway how the two would sort it out. Knowing how insurance companies work I suspect i'd end paying our of my pocket

Nathan - the problem that I had with SF is that they would not cover me out of the country. As much as many others have said their reps indicate no problem, my rep told me to get other coverage.
