Very tough to pick one...but....this one sticks out in my mind. It's a street candid from a festival. Canon 5D, Canon 135 f/2 L.

I love using sunlight to color subjects in photos. I really like his smile, and the way his right eye sort of sparkles from the sunlight. Very nice image.

Boy, that's a good shot. The expression is wonderful and the way the light is striking his right eye is just awesome.

I don't do much "people photography". This was from a surf camp shoot I did during the summer. After surfing, they played what they called "the sandal game". The instructor would stick a few sandals in the sand while the kids turned their backs. Then he'd yell "Go!" and whoever grabbed one first got to continue. Kind of like musical chairs. The competition got pretty fierce. Good times.

This is probably my favorite from 2007, though it is difficult to choose only one, especially when my favorite changes depending on my mood.

The little girl is only 8, but is trying to appear mature, as is evidenced by the lipstick and somewhat demure expression. She was actually very playful and made some excellent quasi action shots during the same session. Anyway, she is a very pretty girl and her hair is as lively as her character, which accounts for the flip of hair that is causing a shadow on her right eye. I was going to move the hair out of the way, but decided to leave it, as the shadow it creates makes interesting play with the shadows on her left forming an hour glass lighting effect. This draws the viewer toward her eyes where one is rewarded by those beautiful blues.

As with most children, her skin is nearly perfect and did not really need the soft-focus effect. However, I feel that this treatment enhances the mood and brings some attention to her hair. Kids around this age are tremendously fun to photograph.
