p.1 #1 · "Plate mount" for lens foot

Sorry for my lack of technical terms, but I'm looking for some sort of "plate" or platform that I can mount to the tripod foot in order to prevent excessive paint wear/loss when attaching it to and removing it from a monopod.

Does that make sense?

Hopefully my questions isn't too painful to read

Take a look at the quick release systems of RRS or Kirk. Both companies offer the lens plates that attach to your lens and a clamp to hold the plate to the monopod.

Manfrotto (used to be Bogen to old-timers!) has a monpod head with a quick release plate that is probably exactly what you're looking for.

Oops. I see you're in Germany. Manfrotto it is.

Check your local camera shop. They should have one or be able to order it.

Your English is definitely better than any German I could come up with!

Thank you!!

I had a feeling it would be something related to the quick release system. This is going to be for a 400mm, so I'm assuming that I will need a 6" plate?

This is what I've discovered (hopefully the correct product):

Okay well apparently that isn't the right thing I'm looking for, but close I need a similar product that has a tripod screw mount at the bottom. I'll keep looking, but if anyone finds a direct link to one, that would be great!!

Will I need to get a quick-release head for the monopod then? It doesn't look like those plates have a screw hole to connect it directly to the monopod...

Doesn't the foot on your lens already have a threaded hole? I have yet to see a current lens with a foot lacking one.

If you do get a QR plate, then you will need a QR clamp on the monopod.

No it has the hole, but my goal is to prevent excessive paint loss/wear from mounting / removing the lens to the monopod.

As suggested by others on this thread, a QR system is your best bet. You will need the appropriate lens plate that you attach to the tripod collar foot. You will need a quick release clamp to attach to the monopod. Once you have both components in place, you use the quick release clamp to hold the lens plate.

There are several companies that sell excellent QR systems that are based on the Arca Swiss standard. It will be expensive at first. But, after you use the QR system you will probably love the convenience of having one. It will prevent paint loss and wear of the lens foot as well as save the threads of the monopod stud and the threads in the lens foot.
