I apologize if this topic was already covered, but I am curious if anyone has compared the advantages and/or disavantages of D3 in crop or DX mode vs a D300.
That is, from an image output point of view, which would yield the best image?
That is to say would a 5.2 megapixel D3 image equal or surpass a 12 mp D300 image? If so, are there limitations where a D300 might be the better choice?
(Final print size, noise at various high ISO?)

The two big advantages the D3 has is 11 fps and better high ISO output.
Besides the High ISO, when would a 5.2 mp image be better then a 12 mp?
I guess from a file handling point of view, 5.2 mp should process faster and take less space. People rave about their D2H images, when blown up, but if seriously cropped, that may be a different story.
One thing that I recall when I first looked through the viewfinder of a D3, is that the crop mode yields a much smaller view in the viewfinder as it darkens the unused area. I didn't ask if "Live View" compensates for crop mode and display a fuller frame.
