p.1 #1 · tripod select help w/600

I will be purchasing the canon 600 and really have no idea what tripod to purchase. Currently I have a Gitzo carbon twist-lock mono-pod that has worked very well.

Been looking at the Gitzo Leveling Mountainer......but do I even need a center post?

Prefer not to spend much more than 500

suggestions needed and appreciated!

Al

The Gitzo Systematic tripods without center post.
The series 5 (tele studex) with full Wimberley will be perfect for the 600 lens

the Gitzo 2 series, even with their increased load ratings in the 6X versions, are much too small. you need at a 3 series tripod or equivalent.

For the 600 I believe people use either a 5-series (the ultimate in load capacity, stiffness, and weight ) or a 3-series. The 5540LS and 3530LSV are the designations for the 3-segment versions, respectively.

The 3530LSV is $629 at B&H. If you want a less expensive Gitzo 3-series you might consider a used 1325 which lots of people utilized for their 600s before Gitzo's latest upgrades.

gitzo 1325, 3530, or on the light side 3540...

You might save a little money going with something different...in the end it will be about a break even. I've owned 4 gitzo tripods and lost A LOT less compared the wash I took on other companies mentioned.

This is the Gitzo GT3530 LSV (3 series) & Wimberley II head, for the 500/4+TC lens. It's the minimum for the 600 lens. But the 5 series is even better.
