OK, I see that now...I don't want to buy two brackets. Good info. Now does the Kirk that takes the transmitter stick way out in the back too? If it does, then it is no better than the RRS. Also it does not look like it slides so you can use it either way? Hmmm, if both of these are true, better off with RRS then...
the kirk NON wifi model is further fwd by about 1/8" making if just hanging out a bit less vs the RRS which is in position approx 1/4" back in the breeze
the kirk wifi model is approx the same as the RRS in it positioning but is approx 1/2" higher in position to fit over the wifi unit itself.
neither the Kirk cannot be adjusted as they are fixed position plates
Back to the original question. Except for the specific example debated over the last two pages the differences in L-brackets overall are quite minor. I happen to like the RRS way a bit better now. But the Kirk would function just as well. One area RRS holds an edge is if you start adding other accessories, they have a pretty extensive selection (I call them Legos for photographers), Kirk not so much as yet. Really you an't go wrong with either.
Now for that Mk III bracket, the Kirk ones look like a cleaner more elegant solution, while the RRS is a more efficient one in the end, just looks clunky. Like sjms said, pick the compromise you like better.

just remember with the kirk its either one or the other or 2 for twice the price. generally the non wifi model because most will not end up using the wifi unit at $800 but then again ......
compromise is a .......

well it really doesn't matter because they will fit either one. and i know that you know which one you really want
I'm flying to Bangkok in the end of December. If I can buy the 1Dsmk3 then or in January, I will do that. If not then I will buy the 1Dmk3 & 5D instead. I'm travelling in S.E.Asia the first 3 months next year so I really need it then
And I like to have the L-bracket with me when I arrive because I can't get one in Thailand

Ahh, OK then, was hoping they would say "you don't need to buy two L-Brackets for the Mk3, one to use a cable release only and one to use the radio controller..." or something to that effect.
Yes I also belive that it will fit. But they didn't say it was for both cameras on their website. RRS did say that.
Another FM:er from the U.S will buy one from RRS for me. And give it to me in Bangkok.
An L-bracket cost about $ 320-325 after shipping, VAT and duty when ordering from Sweden
I guess each to his own, but I like the look and feel of the Kirk brackets better. For the 1D3 though, if you're going to use it in the studio, I might be tempted to get the RRS bracket, even though it looks pretty kludgey and borderline unstable to me.
I think that's the key though, it's for studio use only when you have the wireless attached....
