So what a wild night this turned out to be. If Lansdale Catholic (dark green ) one they would tie to with the Pac10 title. LC is a power house team at 8-1 and faced Phoenixville (5-3) our papers home team. The action was wild , the fans nuts, and the field while not super bight was pretty cleanly lit between the 20’s. Most of the action was at 1/640 at 2.8 6400 iso and even at that there is a bit of blur that action was so fast.
On a side note and not to be the guy to scream fire the Mark 3 seem to really slow down as far as AF speed in the cold. Now again it could many things but my keeper rate really dropped so I’m really looking to see if the next cold night it does the same thing. I will keep you posted.

Great shots! Any noise reduction applied?
I'm been shooting my MIII at iso 2000 w/ flash on ETTL and getting great results, but these make me want to turn off the flash and bump up the iso to get rid of the motion blur I get at 1/300.

What was the temperature? I've got an important Powder Puff game coming up tomorrow night where the photos are being used for a fund raiser and I've been struggling with the decision on whether to take the MkIII (which has worked flawlessly for 2+ months) or to take my MkII. It's supposed to be down in the low 40's to upper 30's tomorrow night. I normally use my 200/1.8 as the lights on this field are really bad. Even at ISO3200 f1.8 I struggle for 1/400.

6400 looks great and you got some great stuff here. Some day... In the mean time, just taking stab at the AF/Cold issue. Any chance it was just a cold battery issue slowing the camea. Maybe keeping a battery in your warm pocket and swapping?

Thanks I never had a lot of luck with flash so the 6400 really fits my shooting style better.

lol yea ... I really wanted 6400 as I hate using a flash for sports. The huge plus is I can work in light that other shooters can't so it's a huge plus. The 3200 on the Mark 3 is mind blowing so it will be great for BBall in a few dark gyms I shoot at.
thanks for the feedback,

Your series is very nice. AT 6400 ISO, I assume you used a noise reduction program?

Thanks Ted :-)
I am using the built in NR as well as a bit of NR in post via PS3. This works well for me I'm looking to work with Noise Ninja but never seem to get around to it. The nice part about the way I'm doing it now is it's all included in what I already own.

Very nice work Bryen, who would have thought we would be able to shoot at ISO 6400 and get those kind of results....

Bryen,
You are just showing out...again!
Last week, I shot football on Thursday and Friday and was able to shoot 3200 and got about 1/500 sec and i enjoyed it so much more than using flash. Tonight, I spoke with a photog from the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and he was using a Mark III and he said the 3200 holds up well. The onlny thing is, I wasn't getting a real high shutter speed on 3200 on my 20D but I looked at his photos on the Democrat's Web site and they were awesome. Maybe I didn't try hard enough
