Boy am i happy i got this lens, heaps better than my old samyang 500 f8.
Even though it was overcast conditions on Friday i got out of school early and couldn't resist going out and trying the lens out for the first time.
All of these shots were hand held, I'm still practicing my techniques as i always used a tripod with my samyang but with this lens i can finally hand hold and its great.
I went out this morning in a clear blue sky and got some better results.
I took photos of Titmice, brown creepers and golden crowned kinglet's but all of them came out bad, those little guys move fast! Only the phoebe's were being cooperative standing still for more than 3 seconds at a time.
you're off to a good start Peter, especially on the second set with the lower ISO. I see your exposure is holding close to 1/800 and f/7.1. I bet you will find that is still a bit slow for handholding and expecting razor sharpness with the 400mm on still subjects.
You will learn more about the lens characteristics with practice.....it soon comes together
Not too shabby, Peter. Don't be afraid to shoot that puppy wide open at f 5.6. It will allow you faster shutter speeds and still maintain sharpness. The only time I stop down is when I want a little more DOF.

I'm happy with what I got so far but was disappointed out of the 230 pics i took today i only think 5 are keepers! I will be trying to get in as much practice as i can this winter because when spring comes i want to go on warbler photography rampage!
