...Stringent DOF, warm conditions, no time to focus (pure AI-Servo), and awaiting for the right moment (this is just ONE of the scenarios were the problem would easily show):

http://www.pbase.com/feharmat/image/88270206/original

And I have even more stringent / difficult.

There is NO SUCH thing as "all" cameras affected. And anyone with enough experience / ownership with 1-series, especially using all of its AF-prowess, will easily notice any problem, especially under the described conditions, here:

http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/multi_page.asp?cid=7-8740-9068

There is sufficient information floating around, in the web, for most folks to be able to recognize/realize if there is a problem.

Enjoy!

well don't send it in and good luck on the resale then. I just find it funny that RG had it occur on multiple bodies, boy he is just real unlucky I guess too.

Well thought and said.

I went though six copies, all have problem even @ oneshot mode, untill two days ago, i became a happy 1D Mark III owner with the Dell Blue Dot one

Wickedfn4u wrote:
I don't think its crazy and it is very realistic.

1. I have tested/shot with two works fine cameras and got them to do the exact same as my two bodies. Both people could not believe they had a problem when they did not see it.

2. Why then when the store I bought my body at exchanged for the 3rd had an email from canon saying all the bodies produced between (and it gave a ser # range) were included. Not dates, not several ranges but just one large one. I wish I had the #'s start and stop but I did not think to look.

3. Weather did play a part, I shoot NW cool to warm when I was in Socal and hot it was real bad. But you are right stringent DOF is why I was able to show the guys here with "good" ones that they just were not in that % that use it a specific way.

So do I feel that all are effected, yeah I do. Will everyone see it, no they won't. Could it effect bodies differently that I don't know because some have issues that I did not or was not able to cause. Single shot fixed target for example.

...Mine came on 9/20ish, from DELL, with NO dots of any kind, and works beautifully.

Just the notion of even pretending that ANY cam in that large range, without posting NOTHING regarding production data, sequence, etc., is just plain non-sense.

Not even R.G.'s production data is known, and most of his tests are already MONTHS old.

God knows what has really happened in production since then, and how such production has been really distributed, though.

WAKE UP, dudes!

OK dude, I am not telling you to do jack squat with your body. Enjoy and good luck on the resale.

My question to you then dude, is why did can call back all stock on store shelves if not all were effected?

I am glad Canon is fixing the stock first. By the time they get to mine they ought to be experts and know for sure if the problem has been fixed. They are suppose to send me a shipping sticker or box before the end of November. I will miss my Mark lll,but if it comes back fixed I will feel like I just got a new Camera. I have a 30D as backup so I will suffer through it.

There has been no recall in the USA. They are not fixing USA dealer stock. If someone bought it and it was defective, it gets sent back to Canon, that's it. Stock didn't last long on the shelf in the USA, it all got sold, fairly rapidly. Perhaps swapped out with some returned problem cameras as well, but none of that could be resold as NEW.

There is NO SUCH f-recall, DUDE. Not in the U.S.

Repeat after me: Canon HAS NOT recalled the 1D MKIII.

Sweet dreams, DUDE!

Ok just to make some matters clear as many people are fighting for nothing...

After reading the announcments and letters and oral sayings of Canon all over the world we have the following facts
1. Not all the cameras are affected but Canon is not able to say us which camera from the first to last that was produced in September or Octomber has been afected so we have to check by ourselfs
2.Only in Europe and especially in UK and NL has been apeared a letter telling that all the not selled MarkIII would have to go back .... be carefull now not to be fixed but to be checked and if it is necessary then fixed.
3.About the Blue Dot...... Blue Dot does not mean something particular until Canon states that the particular camera is AiAF malfunction free and for that it is needed to be a written state and not just a Blue dot on the Box, If a company makes a mistake that is that kind then it must be corrected in a way that the fame of Canon will remain in the top charts. I remind Intel situations that they did send a DHL man to each Pentium buyer that had the known buged CPU and then they make excange at once. Of cource no the times has been changed but there must be a way for the affected camera to be indentified and repaired with the less pain.
I think that at late of November we will have more news but now we need to know what are the results from the Fixed and checked cameras so we are waiting for the Blue Dot people and please just melt your CF/SD cards for us friends

This means NO RECALL. A RECALL means that ALL OF US must send the camera back to Canon. That there is a problem that affects a WHOLE range of units, that MUST be fixed, and it is accepted by the manufacturer.

This problem affects A GROUP of units WITHIN the listed Serial # range, but can not be pinpointed by Canon, due to production-run issues.

Therefore, if your cam performs flawlessly, in most conditions described on Canon's bulletin, DO NOT RETURN the camera. Don't let anyone mess with it. It is just FINE, and those are the ones that people will be looking for, later: units that have performed flawlessly from day one, OVER TIME, and have not been touched in any form or shape since they left manufacturing.

Talk about a "collection" item.

Is there any way to buy this camera online (or in Dallas) and know that you're getting a 'good' body? I really don't want to drop $4,000 for a new camera and then explain to the spouse why I'm sending it to Canon for repairs. The sales job to order it in the first place was hard enough!

Thanks Jack, I was on the road when I was trying to point out that NonF-recall did exist, you saved me some work.

all cameras in that range will have the option of the repair. If you choose to not send it in, your choice. But they are offering repair tags to all in that SN range.

Hum.. so say what.

I do not own a 1Dmk3, neither looking to buy one (I can't afford it.)

This to say I did not read all this thread (tooooo looong), So sorry if it has been already posted

but:

here in Italy canon web says the affected body (for a defective mirror)
are serial number: 501001 - 546561 and from November the free reparation will be available.

Yeah now we just sit on our hands and wait wail they fix their stock is my guess. If you look at the first post they tell me end of October they will send out the call tags. Then a Nov 5th call asking where the tag was and they saying end of Nov is not acceptable.

FYI,
My local dealer dropped the price of the MK III by $1000.00 yesterday! I bought mine 2.5 months ago for the premium price. This whole situation is just messed up! I might put an idea out, anyone who will be sending thier MK III in for the "FIX", should go out an buy a new 40D or a 5D and use it for the period the "FIX" takes and then return it! Canon does not seem to be stepping up to the plate for those of us that make a living with our cameras. Let canon deal with all the returned 5D's or 40D's. Anyone that paided top dollar for "The worlds fasted camera", that doesn't focus propperly all the time should get a brand new one from Canon that WORKS AS ADVERTISED! Just an idea. BTW: I am happy with mine, but $1000.00 hit is a bit rough. I WILL be sending in my MkIII as resale will dictate I do it. Oh well, that's the way ithe little ball bounces, so I have been told...

What I would like to know is it seems quite a few people here have received blue dot bodies but not one has posted whether they work or not, or at least not that I have read in the last few pages......

Should all of us who are waiting simply assume that the fix works?

I am bummed I paid full boar for my first one plus tax so just shy of 5k, but the second one was only 3600.00 so that off set it. I plan on keeping these for a while so will get my money's worth.

Sorry Alistair I am one of those that did get a BD but as luck and time would have it, I have not got to shoot it yet. My first test will be this weekend. I am hoping my dell exchange will be here by then too but doubt it. If this one works I would be surprised if the other wouldn't.
