Great color and wonderful texture in the water. I'm curious about the photo-merge... is that for extra DOF, to get more in the shot, or something else... ?

Yes, as you surmised I was trying to increase the field of view and resolution. Unfortunately I haven't upgraded to a 5D or 'pro' camera. Using this technique I have been able to increase the resolution of several photos. Obviously this isn't required for web resolutions. I have one photo that I captured at 22MP of the falls from straight on. This is matted and framed in the office at 5'x2'. This was 6 images shot as portraits at 17mm and merged into a single image.
