Canon marketing is being sneaky. They know many people are looking for the rebates, and on the day these "might have" started, out comes a promotion when you buy a 5D to get a free Pro9000 printer or $400 off the Pro9500 printer. You have to buy the printer with the 5D then mail in for the rebate.
I saw this in a local camera store Monday 10/15. Interestingly there is a nearly identical promotion at B&H when you buy the 5D, but B&H lists it as exclusive to them, I seriously doubt that! I asked about the fall rebates and they said "We haven't heard about any upcoming rebates". My interpretation; Canon needs this promotion to run a few days or maybe a full week (or two?) before the fall rebates, hoping to move some printers along with the cameras and also reduce the amount of double rebates related to the 5D, they know many people are waiting for rebates before they buy a 5D.
I suspect this might hold a clue pertaining to the value of the 5D rebate in the USA. The portion of the $400 related to the printer is likely in the range of $50-$100, leaving $300-$350 for the 5D itself. Very close to the Canada rebate amount. We could learn the answer as early as 10/18, but if my theory is correct we will have to wait until next Monday 10/22, or
Happy shopping everyone!

So what the heck?? I'm dying to buy a 5D kit but I'm not gonna do it until the rebates start. Canon can't be selling much gear right now with everyone waiting for the rebates. You'd think they would get it in gear and just announce it already.
I'd advise everyone that's interested in something on the small list of eligible lenses to check today. I'm thankful Canon is offering something and not really surprised that the 5d doesn't have a rebate as they just dropped the price. What does surprise me though is that there are no bodies, no combo deals, nothing like any of the deals offered in other countries or what they've done here for many years.
From what I've read here a lot of retailers will take this opportunity to raise prices as soon as the rebates come out, so if you know what the price is today you may stand a better chance of getting a true discount.
I went to Roberts imaging and looked up the 70-200 L f/4 IS and it shows a $75 instant rebate ($1059-$75). The image above says that lens should get a $40 rebate, so this is very confusing.
The top of the email lists only lenses and speedlights. I was surprised. Given all the discussions about the new Nikon bodies I assumed that Canon would do something with bodies. I always appreciate lens rebates though.
Robert's Imaging shows them on their website now. I assume others will catch up.
