Arri makes very good hot lights. Why do you want hot lights for photography? I'd assume this is to suppliment your strobes (which is common in Architectural photography)

I use them quite often, as well as the open faces (Arrilites), mostly for the 4-shot modus of my back. For the 1Kw and 2Kw standard stands with 1 1/8 receiver will do, for the 5Kw you might chose a wind-up stand. Anything special you want to know?

Arri quartz hotlights are basically the standard that others are judged by. If you want another brand to compare them to, look at Mole-Richardson and Lowel. I regularly work with their quartz and HMI sources from 150w up to 2k, though more with my video work than still photography. Any specific questions?
As far as stands and other grip, there's no reason to get packaged stands from Arri. Buy their lights as standalones, then look at grip gear from any number of other manufacturers...you're likely to get better stuff that way. For stands, you've got Bogen/Manfrotto/Avenger at the high end, Impact and SP Systems at the low end. Decide how big you need and how much weight you're willing to bear, then let your wallet be your guide from there.

I have 2 Arri light kit and i think they are too expensive, I paid over 6K for the lights and accessories.
I just got a 2000k light kit from ebay for $270.
Includes the (2) Softbox (2) light heads (2) case and more.

I mix all type of lights, Day light with cool lights (3200° K) and strobes.
All the depends on the color you like.
P.S. If you like HMI it will cost you! starting around 5K for one light.

Lights from Amvona are a joke . They are less than the quality you can get at home depot .
I love them, I just did my first video shoot and they work very well,
and the light stands are better then the Arry light kit stands.
The big case is just great, I can use it for my strobes too.
Anyways, I have 2 arri light kit and I think the amova works well.
Arri is high quality but Mole Richardson are built a lot heavier . If you want the best source for high end used lighting this is it . http://www.pyramid-films.com/ A good source for new arri and Lowel this is it . http://www.filmandvideolighting.com/ Dont turn your nose up at the lowel lights as they are nice and put out a lot of light for their size .
If you want hmi lighting Pyramid can get you what you need . Powering over a 2K light will more than likely require a generator as they have a high current draw and it is not good to plug them into residential service . Hmi lights use a lot of power for the larger ones so you may be better off with tungsten lights .
Also if I was you I would skip the 1K light and get another 2K in its place . Carry a 1K bulb and install it in the 2K light when you only need a 1K light

I agree with you on the Arri stands and most of the kits stands as well , they are crap . The lights amvona sell are made for the amateur market . I made a mistake years ago and bought some of the cheap e-bay crap lights and they fell apart on the ride to the shoot . A grand worth of lights that were in pieces in only a short time . If that is all a person can afford fine , but if you are going to rely on them go with pro lights . There are companies that sell used Hollywood lights fairly cheap like in my other post here . Mole 2K lights can be had for $150 and you can get them cheaper if you buy more than one .

All I am saying is that I get the same quality of light from the amova kit compare to the arri light kit. I even use fluorescent lamp to light and interview and I am about to try led strobes lights for interviews. Light is light, you can change the color or do anything you like with it.
Maybe the lights from amvona will break next week but they did performed well this week.
I am very happy with them, and I may be able to use the softboxes with my strobes.

If you need to save money, the Lowel Omni/Tota kits are fairly well priced, and as Eric said before, they put out a lot of light for small units.
a 2 Omni/2 Tota kit with stands, reflectors, barn doors, gels, umbrellas, and other goodies all in a good hard rolling case runs a little over 1k. They have various kits at different pricepoints, and for the price, you get a lot. Their stands are flimsy, but the lights are small enough that they work just fine.
Jose, good to see another video person here. Hows that collapsible green treating ya? I was considering getting one, but I shoot a lot of vehicles, so I'd need one the size of a small truck to actually cover my purposes.
No video site, I do industrial photography and corporate video (so like pictures of automotive stuff, and talking head or instructional video). I'm an employee, so the photos and video are all work product, which is fine because I'm a salaried employee with health and other benefits.

I have never use the PD-170 but I heard only good things about it, I had the DVX-100A
and I loved it, the colors and and quality were great!
I am thinking on getting this strobe lights for small interviews, they give about 123 Footcandles and they use only 12W. I was thinking on getting 4 of them.
I don't the the color temperature will be a big problem.
Well, considering the DMX controls, it's not really meant for video lighting, but rather as lighting installation for music.
How bout the Lowel Ego. has 2 27W flouros in it, that are daylight balanced. 100 bucks (90 at Adorama if you buy more than 1)
I'd buy 3 or 4 and go to town. According to spec, the CRI is 90 plus. The sun (considered the standard color rendering index) is 100, so this thing is pretty color accurate.
How much are the LED's you're looking at, I didnt happen to find a price.
You are going to need something like this http://tinyurl.com/2czrjx if you want to dim a 5K light . Best bet would be to scrim it or put a lower wattage bulb in it . You could also rig one of these http://tinyurl.com/2f3ns7 to run a few lights although you need an electrician to wire the box if you build your own . Also remember as you dim a hot light the color temp gets warmer .
