What, a 1D? That's not an upgrade, it's just kind of a sideways slide...
If you don't need the features the 1 series gives you, and need more resolution, go for it, but I'll be keeping my 1D for sports.
I mean, the fact that I can sync with non-TTL flash at 1/2000th of a second is pretty damn nice, let alone the great AF, the better viewfinder, the great looking out-of-camera JPG's, and the weather sealed body.
ok,but 40d you will have 6.5fps speed for sports.
close to 1d viewfinder,i dont think you can realize the difference.
AF is of course not even close to 1D

If you like your 1D and use it a lot, then a 40D will probably be a let down to use... Try getting a 1D MK II, prices seem t be falling quickly or even a 1DS MK I, same applies.
I got a 30D as a backup to 1D K II and hated it so much I sold it and got a 1DS.
