Hey,

I finally found some time to upload a few shots from the AMA Superbike races at Miller Motorsports Park. I'll echo Chris' sentiments that this is an enormous facility and add it's also a damn dusty one. Once I figured out which corners offered the best opportunities, I was absolutely loving it.

The Superbike Class brought the predictable Yosh Suzuki beat down of the other hapless entries. Spies was just about untouchable all weekend long. The Formula Extreme final was the most exciting race I've seen in a very long time. Looking at the scoring sheets, the lead changed hands at least four times. Gobert's final margin of victory was just a scant .069 seconds!

Here are few of mine. C&C are welcomed as always.

1) Honda's Duhamel leads Ellison in Friday's Superbike qualifying session.

2) Aaron Gobert leads his Erion Honda teammate Josh Hayes in Saturday's Formula Extreme race.

3) Spies was completely unchallenged in Sunday's Superstock race.

4) Hacking is pressing it a bit to get his Monster Energy Kawasaki on the Superbike podium. He actually broke Duhamel's boot with his front wheel!

5) Ben Bostrum rounds turn 6 during Sunday's Superstock practice session.

6) Following a disastrous start in Saturday's Superbike race, Mladin passes Jake Zemke exiting turn 11.

7) Miguel lays down some serious rubber in pursuit of Yates and Hacking.

8) After securing the weekend trifecta, Spies celebrates with the MMP crowd.

Great shots mate. I sometimes shoot the Australian Superbikes, so know how hard it is to get top notch shots like this. (e.g. I get them rarely). Images 1, 3 and 7 for me.

Nice!

Absolutely awesome series, especially 1,3 and 7, and I also really enjoyed your spread in the July issue of Road Racing magazine in the crash section. That was unreal.

If that last shot is a one handed nose wheelie, any chance you could move your copywrite logo to show it?

Thanks to everyone for all of the kind words. The EXIF info is intact for these shots.

You can see some additional shots here:

http://jcmphoto.com/Motorcycle/2007_AMA_Miller/index.html

The EXIF info is displayed below each image.

I also shot some of the AMA Supermoto, while at Miller. I'll try to post a few from that action later this week. As an old MX'er it was great to see Jeff Ward out burning up the track.

No I didn't make it to that. I'm planning on shooting WERA Talladega and Barber later this Summer. I have an open invitation to cover any of those events I can make it out to.

JC,

The first picture is very very nice, the others are okay (6, 7 and 8 are a little soft IMO).

One thing I have noticed from all the images I have seen (not just yours - it just so happens I'm writing this here - I don't have time to comment on each post - on every board!!) is that everyone has mentioned how "big" Miller is but I've yet to see anything that tells me that pictorially.

That was the *first* thing I noticed. Just the drive to the track had me thinking about how to approach MMP when I was there last year, when so many others were struggling with where to go and how to record the event.

Check out my images on my site from last year and you'll get some idea (I also described the facility on my Wheeler's World column here). For an alternative view with the four wheeled species check out images from John Thawley when he covered ALMS at MMP.

Oh, the supermotard shot is quite lovely - please share some more...

Hope the deer flies didn't get you...!!

Andrew

Andrew,

Thanks for your comments. There's certainly much that I can learn from your eye for the artistic elements. At this point I'm afraid I'm much more a technician, although I strive not to be.

One point I'll make in defense of the image softness. The thermal distortion from the +100F heat and haze wreaked havoc on image quality. A lesson I will certainly take away from Miller to shoot wide/long shots early in the AM while the air is cool and clear.

"Thermal Haze" ...not to be confused with the Hendrix song of a similar name

Hey man...

You're welcome.

I did take the "shimmy" (as I like to call it) into consideration, and trust me (give or take a few degrees) it was equally as hot last year (in fact it was hotter at Laguna for the USGP!) , but that would only affect "long" shots....and by 10am it's hot anyways...

For example the Roger shot, the shimmy wouldn't necessarily be an issue between you and his bike, and if it was then shoot manually and don't use AF.

Anyways, you get the idea...!

See you soon at a track somewhere!

Andrew
