Nikon D700 Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D and onboard nikon sb-27 flash! i also used LR4 to darken a bit and make black and white, however the original colored version looks cool as well! ill find and post soon!

foreground exposure = 191 seconds ISO 100
star exposure = 10 seconds ISO 1600

masked and layered in photoshop.

really wanted stars with the wispy clouds going between the mountains.

Hey thanks Nik and Ed! I will be updating some of my lenses soon, esp my 300mm and 55mm. Will be getting the new 60mm micro, 200mm f4 micro and the 300mm f4 AFS for some serious stuff but yes older lenses does have its own character but for current work stuff, no unfortunately. Cheers!

It would be nice to reprocess the D7000 shots on Phase One but unfortunately the post processing feature isn't as good as NX2. NX2 is still my preferred tool for serious post processing rather than using Photoshop or worse Phase One. Phase One is great for perfect exposures and just simply use the its camera profiles since I like it better than NX2 for general use (and is quicker for batch processing) but there's no way I will use Phase One for serious PP. It's stupid slow, it has limited layers and functionality compared to NX2. Maybe the newer Phase One 7 is better but that requires a 64bit platform...

D3X vs D7000 files? Raw files on D3X look great without adjustments, assuming spot-on exposure. D7000 is a bit flat and some colours are not accurate but can be adjusted in NX2. The amount of shots I do makes it easier for me to accomplish it on the D3X. The D7000 is still my back up and the family camera.

First image was taken on the 19th and due to the Aussy bush fires, the dust on the atmosphere is carried over to NZ, producing the Orange Sun. This image was only processed and coverted in Phase One Capture 6 but no cropping. The 2nd image is a sample on how easy it is to convert daylight (or noon) photos into sunset/dusk by using Photoshop CS5 and done only in 12 layers...anything is possible in CS5, imagination is the only limit. Cheers.
