I have been using the 30 a lot with all my food shoots. I have been very happy with this lens. If you are thinking about this lens I hope this post helps. I questioned it for a while and finally took the plunge. I also bought the Sigma10-20 mostly because I own the 17-55. So far I have only had this out for one shoot and I love it. If work slows down a bit I will try and post some 10-20 pics.
Cheers

I guess I better throw in some desert if you’re getting hungry Pavel, . BTW, my art director threw the whole food-shooting thing at me. I have mostly been doing non-foodstuff and he liked my work so much that he offered me a good portion of the shooting for a dinner guide in the town I grew up in. Back in the day this was a wealthy town but now it’s beyond wealthy. Some of the houses on the lake are over 5 million. I could only afford an out house if I tried to move back, . What blew me away was my first shoot was at a high-end pub that my parents went to for many years. It’s not really expensive or anything but it has great food and a great atmosphere. I had a blast with the two cooks doing this shoot. We all had a passion for what we were doing and got along great. It's always nice when that happens. My wife was assisting me and eating it all when we were done, . Anyway the Sigma 30 has really surprised me!!! I use it a lot. I would say my copy is about = to my Nikon 50f/1.4. On another note both my Sigmas fit snug on my D2X and D2H. Some of my Nikon lenses are not so tight. From day one my 70-200 has had a little play especially on my TC. Im not sure if this is the same with other Sigma owners but so far I have had a great experince.
With regards to the food shots, the composition is great, but I want the entire plate in focus. The part in focus / out of focus plate is not pleasing to my eye. If only part of my plate is in focus, I've had too much to drink.
