Hi Colin, I think the castle is a great subject but like the otheres said theres really flat light that washes out the color. Here's what i did real quick in CS2, I went to Exposure and slid the Gamma over to about -1.5 then upped the contrast to +3.
Here's the top photo, same thing but I used the erase tool to take off the gamma effect on the trees since it made them way too dark. I may have went overboard with these, I'm at work and my laptop montior isn't the greatest. Hope you don't mind these if you do let me know and I'll delete them.

No those are nice edits. It is a shame about the light, I didn't have control of what time of day I was there. From memory this is right in the middle of the afternoon.
Here are my edits and one crop. I did some selective blurring quickly as well as other stuff. I tried to keep things bright and sunny as it was when you took the photo. I clonned out some distractions, cars, etc..
