If you want to keep everything Leica, there is a small strobe model SF-20 marketed by Leica, believe it is compatable with the M8. Usually goes for around $100 on e-bay, a little high but it does have that red Leica dot.

it's called a Canon powershot. Yields similar results in low light to the M8.
troll off thanks
benroy you could try any of the smaller flash from other systems, it wont be TTL nor will it have any synchronous control from the camera (dumb) but AUTO flash works well.
i have an Olympus FL-36 that is quite small, and used on my LC-1 on occasion.
LC-1 has a Leica pattern hotshoe but i havent found any damaging issues. Size wise its a good fit
I use a Sunpak PZ 40X as a travel-flash. The older (one might say obsolete) versions without modern-day compatible auto systems can be had for around $20.
I like mine. Small, takes two AA batteries, 90 degree reverse tilt (Forgot the word), a guide number of 26m at ISO 100 and manual output from 1/1 to 1/16. Just remove all but the sync-pin (to avoid interference) from the foot and you have a nice little fill-flash to put in your pocket.

Nikon SB-30. Auto, Manual, TTL on Nikon film. Only downside is it runs on CR123's.
best be careful with Nikon flash on Leica gear, they share a similar foot, hence you might actuate some 'incamera' process. I dont know about this particular model but I have heard that the SB600 will force the camera to sync at 1/250th. Perhaps not always the most desirable position.
