I have a 30D and I have been advised that selling my pictures will be much easier with the 5D. Is this true and is it the Mpxl count or what the answer? I know the resolution is better, and that enlarging etc will be easier, yet I have seen machines publishers use that recopy the pixels to 4-6x in printing etc. Anyone have an idea on this Thanks!-Rich

Doesn't matter if you use a 30D or a 5D or even a 39meg PhaseOne medium format back for that matter, what matters is content of the photo.

If its not a good and compelling photo that appeals to the consumer, all the tecnical quality, resolution etc is all meaningless.

Would you be any more likely to buy a photo you didn't like just because it was higher resolution ? I wouldn't

Actually by companies wanting stock photos. They would like 10-12mxpls if possible

Ah, well then thats a bit of a different issue then. By selling, I was under the (mistaken) impression you were talking about selling images to members of the general public at art shows, galleries and so forth.

Yes some stock companies do have minimum requirements on file size and shooting with higher resolution does open more possible clients.

Stocks a tough game thats getting tougher all the time though and if your just starting off, I personally wouldnt go upgrading gear just for shooting stock because unless you've got probably 10,000 images, its very very tough to start to see a return. Its a numbers game more than anything

You can certainly crop more with a 5D and retain decent image quality, this can save otherwise unusable shots

David's comment about cropping the 5D image (both for "zoom" and for aspect ratio) is one of the two reasons that I'm getting a 5D soon. The other reason is that I'll be able to take full advantage of some of my excellent wide angle lenses, such as the 17-40L, 24-70L, SMC Pentax 18/3.5 and Zeiss Distagon 28/2.8.
