This camera looks absolutely amazing. No wonder they released the 1DM2n... the 1D3 has been completely redesigned and is a huge step forward!

I thought the original MKII was $4499 at intro, and the N was $3999 also.

The low noise mode looks interesteing as does the improvement in button controls. Of course ISO improvements are useful.

The lens specific adjustment for front/back focus should make for a lot less send-ins to the service centers. Although for some here, the maximum "library" of "only" 20 lenses might not be enough.

I think I must be the only person who is a tad disappointed that they have only increased the 'III' to 10 meg.

Not the only one, plenty of people were clamoring for 12MP FF, but I'm happy

dhphoto wrote:
For me the reason I go to my 5D more than my 1DIIN is the image quality which I can't imagine will be a lot better than the 1DIIN

Well, the pixels are smaller, but the actual photodiode size is the same, and they claim to have increased fill factor, so with the new processing, I expect some amount of improvement.

Also it seems although the hole looks the same the batteries won't be backwards compatible, so that means for existing owners they will need two types of battery and two separate chargers.

Had to happen sometime, and I'm glad they did, although for now I'll be one of those with multiple large format chargers and batteries; actually 3 with the 1DsII, 1DIII and 5D.

Finally we'll get Phil from DPR to stop complaining about his pet peeve, as they've allowed the camera to keep writing if the memory door is opened.

Yes, but Phil was mad that he didn't get advance notice of the 1Diii

Oh good, a new pet peeve to preface every Canon review.

"Even if AI Servo AF is used to focus on a still subject, stable control is enabled so that the lens drive isn’t constantly fine-tuning."

Page 21. Thank goodness for no more spastic focusing on still subjects!

That guy will look for anything to make a snide remark about Canon. Pathetic.

I'm impressed - Seems like Canon really went through all of the 1D2 specs and gave every single component an overhaul. So what might seems like an evolutionary upgrade (i.e. slightly higher resolution, sligthly higher fps, slightly higher x-sync, slightly higher write speed, etc etc.) ends up being an entirely new and well-thought design.

Some of the new features I really like:

- sRAW
- ½ pound lighter
- Wider DR
- generally fewer 1Desque idiosyncrasies...

Well done! If only I could afford it

I was hoping to see some high ISO shots in the Samples, but no....... strange that, as the marketing makes a big point about the ISO range
