If this can retail for $50, and the file structure of a 30D et al is DOS based, there is no reason Canon can't just include the circuitry/antenna in their bodies and be done with it.
What about blue tooth flash connectivity? Or GPS capability?
$100 cell phones pack more technology than $8000 cameras these days!
I'm not in need of weather sealing, but I can buy a $100 GPS unit than can survive under 6 feet of water for 15 minutes so I don't see why I have to spend $4000 at Canon to get even 1/10th the level of protection.
How about they bring 2 new models and rock the world - a 7Dnw or a 40Dnw - FF and1.6 crop, but networked and weather sealed, 7 to 10 FPS, 10Mp either sensor, with the dust shaker bit.
Price it at $1800 to 2800 (1.6 and FF respectively)
Now that will get people buying Canon bodies!...Show more →
I think blue-tooth is probably the best bet, at least for pros, image being in Outer Slobovia, connecting the camera to your Crackberry, and uploading the entire shoot to your online storage service. Probably cheaper and easier then hauling a laptop through the jungle. It's amazing where they have cell service these days.....
Note the several sessions they have on the EOS 30D (special announcment demonstraiton sessions every day ) intermixed with the new IXUS and Powershot previews... Clealry a placeholder for the new cameras they really are going to show there.. Should be EOSfun
You're sure that's not just an old page from last year?

Are you being serious? I guess it's really time Canon gives us something soon... everyone is going insane

They also listed the EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM and EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM as "new products previews".
That's probably because the date also says 10 to 12 March 2006 (Friday to Sunday)

I dreamed last night that the "big" news was a MF camera optimized for HDR.
I think I've finally gone over the top.
Oh well, guess I'll find out tomorrow.

Not to beat a dead horse, but the staggering silence from Canon indicates to me that we could possibly see some bigger news than the 1d and 40d "leaks" have prepared us for.

Anthony, you have 24 f1.4 L and 16-35 f2.8 L, what do you need more?
Well I actually have the 35mm f/1.4 L but I know what you mean - yes, I do have plenty of gear. However, if Canon did produce a 12-24mm zoom, even if it was slower than f/2.8, I expect that I would choose to sell the 16-35mm and replace it with the 12-24mm. After all, if I am shooting between 24-35mm I will be using my 24-70mm not my 16-35mm.
With respect to the "premium" slower primes, there is obviously a demand given the numbers of people using Zeiss and Leica lenses (particularly wide angles) on their Canon Cameras. If people are prepared to fork out $2000+ for many of these lenses, surely Canon must realise there is demand for a premium slower line of lenses.
Personally, I would like them not just for the improved IQ, but also because they would likely be lighter and smaller than the existing lenses, and hence better for travel.

Well some folks think tsiphoto knows what he is talking about given that he predicted (very accurately) the Xti. He has certainly been economical with his use of words in his posts - his style and the fact he is pointing to only a few key details also seems perhaps a little more believable than some other posters who give long spec lists.

I wish all the naysayers and hand-wringers and people ready to sell off their systems if Canon doesn't upgrade the 30D would pay attention to that fact. As well as all the people who have written off the 30D and called it a disaster for Canon based on their tea-leave reading of a couple of fragmentary sales figures.
I realize that this is anecdotal data, but I've seen a good number of posts by people
on photo forums who recently purchased or were planning to purchase a 30D. Not
everyone has a need to "upgrade" every 12-24 months.
