p.1 #1 · Why no alternative system gear in review section?
I was taking a look in the review section and noticed that there are no reviews for alternative camera systems (Sony, Pentax, Olympus, Leica etc) only Canon and Nikon cameras.
Would be great to see a few more brands in the review section. What do you all think?

Perhaps they just need someone to write the reviews...

Isn't Sony about to move into the No.2 place as far as units sold? This is a tough issue for Fred. Do you cater to pros where the equipment they use has low unit volume sales, to the consumer where the equipment they purchase has the highest unit sales? Or keep it simple and do just high quality reviews of only a couple? Tough call.

Well, considering that they are user reviews, I can't see the problem with Fred just sticking the categories and items in there and letting things happen. So, it isn't really an either/or situation, IMHO. A category full of Zeiss lenses (for example) would see a lot of traffic (both reviewers and readers) and prove to be an excellent resource.

However, the Zeiss lenses are only available on the second hand market, some are quite scarce, and some simply not easily obtainable at all. They all require much work adapter-wise to get them to perform. Not as turn key as reading a review about the Canon 85/1.2L and then having one shipped to you the next day.

Why choose at all? The more the merrier. Imo, there should be a forum for each of the most available brands.

John, unless you have more up-to-date information than I do, Sony was in or close to second place for DSLRs sold in the month the A100 was released, but not since then. Do you have more recent info?

That is right. The went to second in the month it was introduced. It was only strong in the first week of its introduction (in Japan, at least) and steadily declined afterwards. The last I've seen was that they were definately behind Canon and Nikon and around the level of Pentax and Olympus. Of course, I've only seen data for Japan, but I suspect that the rest of the world isn't too different. I'll see if I can locate the data again. Does anyone know if there is any data for the USA or Europe?

...but if all the user reviews are there for all these different lenses, then the reader can decide for him/her self whether the alternative lenses will be worth the effort.

I don't know about listing lenses which need adapters or camera modification, But at least make a section for the alternitive branded d/SLR's since there is a market beyond Canon and Nikon.

Has anyone talked to Fred about this? I imagine he would be fairly open to at least letting us know his reasoning in including or not including certain pieces of gear...
