p.1 #1 · Before/Afters of some of my shots.

On my photoblog I decided to post some before/afters of existing shots to show some of my processing techniques to people who are interested. For those who don't want to wait 4 days to see them here they are in advance . Enjoy

A lot of people are interested in how I acheived such processing. Processing techniques takes a LOT of trial and error with a lot of experimenation which is why this next image you will see the layers unnamed and messy. When editing for use on the web I do cut corners such as not naming layers to save time. Hopefully you will have an idea what I have done by looking at the layers themself. As you can see it is very straight forward stuff. Hope this helps!

wow!!

I wish i could pp as good as half the ppl here, as great pp'ing can turn an average picture into a marvelous picture.

I'm guessing the knowledge of what and how to post process comes with experience?

Pell has sold his soul to the devil to get these amazing abilities.
If you want to be this good, you have to ask yourself if it's worth it!

Awesome! Like the first and last one the best. Like how you cast the light on the models legs.
The others are great also!

Not sure how he does it, but here's one technique for dodging and burning, like adding the light to the legs.

1) Add a new blank layer at the top of the stack
2) Set the Blend Mode of the layer to "Overlay"
3) For dodging (lightening, like he did on the legs), choose paintbrush and White for the foreground color. Set the brush Flow to around 10%, then "lighten" where you want to lighten. To darken (or burn), use Black as the foreground color.

Be True,
Ed R.

They're all excellent--I particularly like the plane shot and how such a simple change adds so much to the shot.

All images delivered via a digital media are technical digital images. The term "Photos" has certain connotations and is associated with traditional film based photography, which has a long history of imaged manipulation in the dark room.
Digital imaging equipment has opened that world to more people but to product great shots still requires skill both in capture and post processing.
Steve does both very well
Just my 2 cent worth.

Jeeze, I would really love to know how the background was edited in the second one. I would love to be able to shoot with a wrinkled sheet as my background and be able to smooth it like that afterwards!! If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. I'd be forever grateful!

Stephen,

You are a master of capturing a great image and of post-processing. I love most all your stuff and I particularly love the image of the model perusing her brochure. Exceptionally creative! I wanna be you, man!

Awesome. I really like #3.

#1. A narrower nose, wider lips and a bit off the waist and she’s a 10. That type of editing never ceases to amaze me.
