A month ago, I didn't have a single M lens. Fast forward: now I will have a few by tomorrow. Am I committed ? I am at a point of no return now. Hey, at least, I can play with an M6 until the M8 becomes available....
I allready told my wife that I ordered the M8. I think she gave up long time ago.
The first times she got really mad about me getting all the stuff.
The trick is to just get so much equipment that the wide gets confused and doesnt realize anymore what new.
For me the M8 is a great step.
10 years mainly using M cameras. The swithcing to digital, Oly, Nikon 950 , Canon D30, D60, 1D, d2h, E1 (keeping Nikon), selling E1, RD1, d2x replacing d2h, s3pro and selling it after 6 months, rd1, dmr+r9.
Now comes the M8, back to where I was 7 years ago just digital.
I really believe that I am finally in a stage where I get the camera I have waited for long time and havent to worry about equipment much any more.
MMhhhhh,
still undecided on lenses. My dream would be to have all the Zeiss, Voigtländer and Leica lenses for 1 year and use them all and decide from there.
I am very tempted to get the Leica 50/1.4 but still wonder if its really worth the money.
I also wonder about the Zeis 15/2.8. Would it be betther than the tri-elmar at f4 ?
It may seem like madness .... but once you hold that little gem of a lens in your hands ...
I, along with a bunch of folks here, with be very interested to see if and how you adapt to rangefinder shooting. If it takes, you'll have a blast. Personally, while I love my DMR, I find that my RD-1 goes with me everywhere. It's changed how I look at photography.
I have one on order but haven't decided if I should get it or not. I've fallen in love with my Fuji S3 files and I'm thinking of getting the S5 when it's out... Maybe for me, Leica will be strictly analogue
I've joined the march to the bin, all my canon equip is in the box sold with an M8 on order. While i never bit on the DMR i did the Kodak SLR/c expirament and roller coaster. it was a trip learning to get the most from that and kept it.
a few of the Kodak SLR/c users are queued up for the M8.
i'll likely not get one real soon so may go the route I think sean suggested and get a CV RF to play with for a bit and shoot some of that plastic rolly stuff and check out some glass.
Guy, I'm thinking that you may really enjoy the freedom, creativity and simplicity of the rangefinder experience. Instead of thinking through all of the logistics of the dslr in "working the shot", rangefinder shooting is a little bit more of just reacting to what is in front of you. The change of pace is very enjoyable.
It seems like there will be at least a few here who will have the DMR and the M8 at the same time - will make for some interesting comparison experiments. I'm glad we can process both with C1 - hopefully removing that as a variable.
And I'll certainly look at differences between the M8 and scanned film from the MP and M6, but that will be a much harder comparison, I think.
I'm still hearing rumblings that the first M8's could make it to the US between the second and fourth weeks of October. It certainly would be a lot of fun to run around with the camera while the leaves are still on the trees and the snow hasn't yet hit the ground. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
At this point, indeed, it is not a matter of in or out for me, it is a matter of getting a black or chrome version . I really like the classic look but a black one is a little stealthtier. Given the choice, who will go for the classic chrome/silver copy?

Hey I am not the only one buying the M8 , I want everyone here to place there order. I need more than me to be the pioneer AGAIN.
Take comfort that you're not alone... I bought a CV 28/1.9 and am now on the hunt for a good condition 1950's Summitar 5cm f2 and was about to post that someone please stop me!!!.
Seriously, I will pay for this by thinning my R lenses a bit, especially on the wide end. I really prefer shooting range finders with wide angles, SLRs with telephotos. I will probably still get a Summilux 75 before this little spree is over.
