My new cycling shoes. seems everything that comes in this house that is new I try to shoot in hopes of creating a nice portfolio item.
Three shots with the same basic setup; single 580EX with 32" silver umbrella on a stand. The different background effects come from moving the light around.
And the setup. From the top was the only way I could shoot this as the shoes were completely blocked in.
A young lady needed an image for the newspaper tomorrow so I shot this a couple of hours ago outside in the back yard. She will be running in this year's Miss Rodeo Canada competition.
Background is black felt. Main light (120x180cm softbox in horizonal orientation) slightly left of camera. White reflector on camera right (i.e. just out of frame close to the lady's left side).
For one flash set ups, do you guys find 600ws more than adequete using umbrellas and softboxes , or should i go with 1200ws for a one light set up? Especially if i want to have the option to overpower the sun.
I comfortably use 400 and 800 ws units with the sun however the flash is close to the model. If you really want good lighting control to overpower the sun, you might try 1200-3200 ws.
400-800 ws is also fine for working the the evening or cloudy days.
