Whoa! RDD, how did you convince that girl to go out in the middle of the river in that dress? What an amazing shot... almost fairy-tale like!
Arka C.
The girls (there were actually three of them) were all about getting in there and making some interesting images. Their hubbies, in contrast, stayed on the bank and watched.
The only thing I can think of that would've made this image more to my liking would've been a "groom" in the spot the"bride" in the background is.

Was your 285 pointed forward in the Halo, or pointed at the back and bounced? Nice job.
Foward. When I use the Qflah I usually bounce it. So much of this shoot was at mid-day that I wanted as much punch out of the 285 as I could get. I wanted to use 285 for portability... i.e. the ability to run it off of AA's. We were all over downtown DC as well as out in the country somewhere near Chantilly, VA.
There's a series of 9 shots on my blog, plus a link to a slide show of several more if anyone's interested ( http://rddeckerphotography.com/blog ). Not all the shots are "lit." A few are ambient. But for the most part I had the light popping.
I looked at your blog--nice images! I really like them. Do you do "paint with light" in your PP?
Thanks,
Larry
Hi Larry.
I've heard of "painting with light" as a production techinque but I'm not sure how it applies as post processing technique, so I guess the answer is no.
99% of my post is done prior to RAW conversion using Bridge: Color temperature, sharpness, exposure, shadow, saturation, vignette, cropping... all very basic and done prior to converting to jpg. In CS2 I may occassionally clone out a distraction in the background, or clone over spot casued by a dirty sensor, and once in a great while might play with applying a texture or an action, but mostly it's done in Bridge. I do frequently run the Proofmaker 2 script for bordering, applying my studio name and/or resizing.
I love this thread, it took me two days to get here....
Jason and Simon, I am in awe of your work. Thanks to everyone for the info and inspiration.
A few of mine: All of them are my AB800, on camera right, shot through a brolly box. Used a 20D with 24-70. I also used my 550EX on the lowest setting, aimed at the strobe to set it off without using a PC cord, not to illuminte the subject. (Pocket wizards are coming eventually)
